Comparison of addiction between Zoloft and Serenata

Like safety, addiction also involves many factors that must be considered when evaluating a drug.

So, the totality of the values of such parameters as “o syndrome” in Zoloft is quite similar to the similar values in Serenata. Withdrawal syndrome is a pathological condition that occurs after the cessation of intake of addictive or dependent substances into the body. And resistance is understood as initial immunity to a drug; in this it differs from addiction, when immunity to a drug develops over a certain period of time. The presence of resistance can only be stated if an attempt has been made to increase the dose of the drug to the maximum possible. At the same time, Zoloft has a fairly low incidence of “syndrome”, just like Serenata.

Contraindications

Absolute:

  • unstable epilepsy;
  • pregnancy and breastfeeding (lactation);
  • children under 6 years of age;
  • use together with fenfluramine or tryptophan;
  • use together with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO) - the interval between their use and taking Serenata should be at least 2 weeks;
  • increased individual sensitivity to sertraline and (or) auxiliary components of the drug.

Relative contraindications for which Serenata tablets should be used with caution: organic brain diseases (including mental retardation), manic states, epilepsy, liver and/or kidney failure, weight loss.

Pharmacokinetics of the drug

The active elements of the drug have a good level of absorption, but this process takes a long time. The maximum saturation of the drug in the blood plasma is observed 4.5-8 hours after internal administration. When eating, the bioavailability of sertraline increases by twenty-five percent. At the same time, the period of reaching the maximum amount of drug in the blood plasma is reduced.

The ability of the active element to combine with plasma proteins is 98%. During metabolism, sertraline undergoes an N-demethylation reaction. Metabolic products are excreted in urine and feces in equal volumes. 0.2% of the active element is excreted by the kidneys in unconverted form. The half-life of the components of the drug is 22-35 hours.

The excretion time is not affected in any way by the gender and age of the patient. The pharmacokinetic properties of the drug do not depend on the level of renal impairment.

Analogues that can replace the antidepressant Serenata:

  • Asentra – tablets (50 mg);
  • Surlift – tablets (50 and 100 mg);
  • Zoloft – tablets (50 and 100 mg);
  • Thorin – tablets (50 mg).

special instructions

There is insufficient data from studies of the use of Serenata in patients receiving ECT (electroconvulsive therapy), and therefore the possible success or risk of such a combination has not been studied.

Patients with depression represent a risk group for suicidal intentions and attempts. This danger persists until the remission phase and requires constant medical monitoring of patients from the start of the course until an acceptable clinical effect is achieved.

The simultaneous use of Serenata and drugs that depress the central nervous system should be carried out with extreme caution and under careful monitoring of the patient's condition.

Drinking alcohol during treatment is prohibited.

Impact on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms

Sertraline, as a rule, does not cause impairment of psychomotor functions. However, when used in combination with other drugs, concentration and coordination of movements may be impaired. In this regard, engaging in potentially hazardous activities and driving vehicles and special equipment are not recommended.

Comparison of ease of use of Zoloft and Serenata

This includes dose selection taking into account various conditions and frequency of doses. At the same time, it is important not to forget about the release form of the drug; it is also important to take it into account when making an assessment.

The ease of use of Zoloft is approximately the same as Serenata. However, they are not convenient enough to use.

The drug ratings were compiled by experienced pharmacists who studied international research. The report is generated automatically.

Analogs

There are drugs on the pharmaceutical market containing the same active ingredient (sertraline). These medications will have similar effects and exhibit similar side effects. The main difference lies in the method of obtaining sertraline and the purity of the drug from impurities - the therapeutic effectiveness and severity of adverse reactions depend on this.

In addition to sertraline-containing drugs, antidepressants containing other active ingredients are also available. It is necessary to understand that the severity of the therapeutic effect and the presence of side effects will differ from those of Serenata.

Comparison of side effects of Zoloft and Serenata

Side effects or adverse events are any adverse medical event that occurs in a subject after administration of a drug.

Zoloft's side effects are almost the same as Serenata's. They both have few side effects. This implies that the frequency of their occurrence is low, that is, the indicator of how many cases of an undesirable effect of treatment are possible and registered is low. The undesirable effect on the body, the strength of influence and the toxic effect of Zoloft are similar to Serenata: how quickly the body recovers after taking it and whether it recovers at all.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Serenate is a drug with antidepressant efficacy that selectively inhibits the reuptake of serotonin (5-HT), having a weak effect on the reuptake of dopamine and norepinephrine. The use of therapeutic doses of sertraline blocks the uptake of serotonin by human platelets. At the same time, it does not have an affinity for adrenergic, serotonin, histamine, dopamine, muscarinic, GABA or benzodiazepine receptors, and does not have a sedative, anticholinergic or stimulating effect.

The antidepressant effect of Serenata is observed by the end of the second week of therapy, provided that sertraline is taken regularly, and the maximum effectiveness of treatment can be achieved only after six weeks.

The use of sertraline, unlike therapy with tricyclic antidepressants, does not contribute to weight gain. Sertraline does not cause physical or mental drug dependence.

Pharmacokinetics

Main pharmacokinetic characteristics of sertraline:

  • absorption: absorption from the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) after oral administration of Serenata is significant, but prolonged. The maximum concentration of the substance in plasma (Cmax) is achieved after 4.5–8.4 hours. When taken simultaneously with food, its bioavailability increases by 25%, and the time to reach Cmax is reduced;
  • distribution: as a result of a single daily dose of Serenata, the equilibrium plasma concentration (Css) of sertraline is achieved within one week, while its binding to plasma proteins is up to 98%, and the volume of distribution (Vd) is more than 20 l/kg. Sertraline passes into breast milk; there is no data on its passage through the placental barrier;
  • metabolism and excretion: intensively metabolized during the first passage through the liver, sertraline undergoes N-demethylation to form the main metabolite - N-desmethylsertraline (less active compared to the parent compound). About 0.2% of the substance is excreted unchanged by the kidneys; metabolites are excreted in equal volumes with urine and feces. The half-life (T1/2) ranges from 22 to 36 hours, the value does not depend on age or gender. For N-desmethylsertraline, the figure increases to 62–104 hours. Sertraline is not dialyzable.

In patients with impaired liver function, T1/2 and AUC (area under the concentration-time curve) values increase.

In patients with renal failure, regardless of its severity, the pharmacokinetic parameters of sertraline do not change (subject to continuous use).

Comparison of the effectiveness of Zoloft and Serenata

The effectiveness of Zoloft is quite similar to Serenata - this means that the ability of the drug substance to provide the maximum possible effect is similar.
For example, if the therapeutic effect of Zoloft is more pronounced, then using Serenata even in large doses will not achieve this effect.

Also, the speed of therapy - an indicator of the speed of therapeutic action - is approximately the same for Zoloft and Serenata. And bioavailability, that is, the amount of a drug reaching its site of action in the body, is similar. The higher the bioavailability, the less it will be lost during absorption and use by the body.
