Sibazon
Pharmacological group: anxiolytic agent (anxiolytics)

pharmachologic effect

The drug is a benzodiazepine derivative, a tranquilizer, a muscle relaxant, and has a sedative and anticonvulsant effect. The mechanism of action is as follows: Sibazon enhances the inhibitory effect of gamma-aminobutyrate in the central nervous system, inhibits spinal reflexes, thereby reducing the tone of skeletal muscles.

Pharmacokinetics

The drug is quickly absorbed - about 75 percent of the total mass. It begins to act 30 minutes after administration, and reaches maximum plasma concentration (Cmax) in 120 minutes. When taking the medicine regularly, the equilibrium concentration (Css) is established after 7-14 days. The duration of action of sibazon is about 12 hours. The active substance binds to plasma proteins by 94-99%, penetrates into the cerebrospinal fluid and breast milk.

70% of the drug is excreted by the kidneys and about 10% in the feces. 1-2% – unchanged. The elimination process is divided into two stages: fast and active elimination occurs in 2-3 hours, the next slow phase lasts up to 70 hours.

  2. Advanced stage of glaucoma.
  3. Alcohol poisoning (excluding acute withdrawal)
  4. Overdose of analogue drugs.
  5. Myasthenia.
  6. Presence of apnea.
  7. Liver dysfunction, liver disease.

Treatment of neuroses, insomnia, and depression with this drug is carried out only under the strict supervision of a doctor.

Interaction with other drugs

When prescribing a drug, it is necessary to tell the doctor in detail about all medications currently used by the patient in order to check their compatibility. When combined with certain substances, taking Sibazon is dangerous.

  • Sibazon should not be taken simultaneously with antiviral medications. The latter enhance the sedative effect, which can lead to depression of respiratory function and heart problems.
  • Taking other muscle relaxants and antidepressants enhances the cholinergic effect, in addition, there is a risk of developing apnea.
  • Sibazon is not prescribed simultaneously with antihypertensive drugs; the consequences of joint use are unpredictable.

Restrictions

Since Sibazon is a very powerful remedy, reviews from doctors and official instructions highlight a number of conditions in which the use of this drug is dangerous to health and life. You cannot take the drug:

  • People with a hypersensitive immune system. Substances introduced into the body can provoke an inadequate response of antibodies and other relevant cells.
  • In acute cases of kidney and liver diseases. In this case, the weak functioning of the organs cannot fully remove the medicine. This will contribute to intoxication and worsening of the condition.
  • Persons suffering from various forms of muscle diseases, including myasthenia gravis.
  • In the form of uncontrolled use at home for various addictions. Combination with alcohol or drugs can have serious effects on the functioning of the heart, brain and other vital organs. When treating withdrawal syndrome, you must strictly follow the recommendations of a specialist.
  • People with suicidal tendencies are not recommended to use Sibazon. Reviews and recommendations indicate that this drug can cause an exacerbation.
  • For breathing problems. This medicine helps to relax all muscles, including the respiratory ones. It also prevents the passage of signals from brain cells to the periphery. This can provoke an exacerbation of the disease.
  • If you have glaucoma. If you use Sibazon, reviews and studies indicate a greater likelihood of various complications.
  • For diseases associated with disorders of muscle movements at the level of the brain and spinal cord. In such cases, the symptoms of the disease sharply worsen.

Medicine dosage

The drug is taken orally, administered intramuscularly and intravenously. For intravenous administration, a slow method is used: 1 ml of the substance per minute.

  • Acute attacks of anxiety or panic are relieved with a dose of 1-2 ml of Sibazon. After 4 hours, the injection can be repeated. For alcoholic delirium, 2 ml of the substance is needed, the dose is repeated every three hours until all symptoms are relieved. The maximum single dose is 30 mg, the maximum daily dose is 70 mg.
  • During an attack of epilepsy, it is necessary to administer 30 mg of the drug: 2 ml every 15 minutes. The norm for children in the first month of life is administered at 0.1 ml per 1 kg of weight (the daily dose is determined by the doctor), after 1 year the single dose is 5 mg, after five years - 10 mg.
  • For muscle spasms, the medicine is administered 3-4 ml intramuscularly. If necessary, the injection is repeated after three hours, and subsequently the tablet form is used.
  • When treating tetanus, adults are prescribed 2 ml of Sibazon by slow administration. When using droppers, choose a rate of 10 mg per 1 hour.
  • For lumbago and cervical radiculitis, 4 ml of the drug is injected intramuscularly - up to two injections to relieve pain. Then Sibazon tablets are prescribed.
  • Before surgery, the patient is given an injection into the muscle (dose - 3-4 ml) or an intravenous injection - 2 ml. After the operation, another 1 ml of the drug is added.
  • To put the patient into a state of sleep, 4-6 ml of Sibazon is needed intravenously by slow administration. The dosage in this case is determined by the doctor individually.

How to take it safely and effectively

The dosage of Sibazon depends on the complexity and nature of the disease:

  • for the treatment of adult patients in psychiatry and neurology, the medicine is recommended at a dose of 5-10 mg three times a day;
  • as an anxiolytic - 2.5-10 mg two or four times a day;
  • arterial hypertension and angina pectoris, as well as diseases and problems in obstetrics and gynecology - 2-5 mg three times a day;
  • for children with a psychosomatic disorder or spastic condition, the norm is 1 mg, gradually adding to the optimal level;
  • For children from 6 months, 1-2.5 mg is enough.

The dosage and course of treatment are prescribed by the attending physician based on the patient’s condition and tolerability of the drug.

Overdose

If the dosage of the drug is violated, patients experience the following symptoms:

  • Inhibited reaction or strong arousal.
  • Drowsiness.
  • Increased sleep duration.
  • Apnea.
  • Respiratory system dysfunction.
  • Bradycardia.
  • Increased pain threshold.
  • Loss of coordination.
  • Decreased reflexes.
  • Loss of consciousness.
  • Coma

An overdose of Sibazon can be fatal.

If you notice any of the symptoms, you should immediately consult a doctor. Hemodialysis and diuresis are not effective. In the hospital, flumazenil is given intravenously as an antidote. In case of overdose, it is important to monitor the functioning of the heart, breathing, monitor body pressure and temperature, and the general condition of the body.

special instructions

A significant duration of therapy and the use of high doses of Sibazon, as well as previous abuse of alcohol or drugs, increases the risk of drug dependence. The drug is not recommended for long-term use without special instructions.

Increased caution is required when using diazepam in patients with severe depression, since they may use the drug to realize suicidal intentions.

In patients with renal or liver failure, as well as with long-term use of Sibazon, the activity of liver enzymes and peripheral blood patterns should be monitored.

If after using the drug there is the development of increased aggressiveness, psychomotor agitation, anxiety, feelings of fear, thoughts of suicide, hallucinations, difficulty falling asleep, shallow sleep, increased muscle cramps, stop taking it.

During therapy, ethanol intake is prohibited.

It is necessary to take into account that the effect of the drug weakens smoking.

Young children are particularly sensitive to the CNS depressant effects of benzodiazepines. Drugs containing benzyl alcohol should not be administered to newborns, as it can lead to the development of a fatal toxic syndrome (metabolic acidosis, central nervous system depression, difficulty breathing, renal failure, hypotension and possibly epileptic seizures, intracranial hemorrhage).

The use of Sibazon tablets in a dose exceeding 30 mg within 15 hours before or during childbirth can cause hypothermia, respiratory depression (to apnea), decreased blood pressure and muscle tone, and weak sucking in the newborn.

During the period of use of the drug, patients should refrain from engaging in potentially hazardous activities that require increased attention and speed of psychomotor reactions.

Side effects of the drug

  • From the central nervous system: drowsiness, dizziness, headache, retardation of actions, spatial disorientation, slow speech, confusion, hallucinations, muscle weakness, low mood, rarely - the occurrence of suicidal thoughts.
  • From the cardiovascular system: bradycardia, cardiac arrhythmia, tachycardia, very rarely cardiac arrest.
  • From the respiratory system: shortness of breath, apnea.
  • From the endocrine system: decreased libido.

The drug should be taken under the supervision of a doctor; if adverse reactions occur, reduce the dosage.

I have been suffering from cervical osteochondrosis for several years. During the next exacerbation, the doctor prescribed Sibazon to relieve pain. Relief after the injection came quite quickly. I haven’t noticed any side effects, except that I sleep a little more. I don’t drive a car that day. In combination with other drugs for osteochondrosis, it helps greatly.

Recently, out of the blue, I began to experience severe fear and panic, although there was no reason for this. I decided to start treatment with medications. The doctor prescribed Sibazon. At first I didn’t understand his actions, but after the second injection I became much calmer. She breathed freely, the inexplicable anxiety disappeared.

Anna, 50 years old.

I learned about Sibazon when I was treating cervical radiculitis. As usual, during an attack I felt severe pain - I couldn’t turn my neck. I went to the doctor. At the medical office they gave me an injection into the muscle with some medicine, and after some time the pain subsided. It turned out to be Sibazon, then the doctor prescribed it in tablet form as maintenance therapy. Now I relieve all exacerbations of radiculitis with this drug.
