  • hawthorn;
  • St. John's wort;
  • valerian;
  • hop;
  • elder;
  • passionflower;
  • Guaifenesin.

All components combine effectively with each other, collectively producing a calming effect.

Guaifenesin also has an additional anti-anxiety effect, helping with long-term neuroses and stressful conditions.

Passion flower has a beneficial effect on sleep, returning it to a normal, healthy direction. In addition, like elderberry, it has the ability to relieve spasms and pain, as well as restore concentration.

Valerian has long been recognized as a mild sedative. However, it does not cause any harm and is not addictive.

St. John's wort is an active antidepressant. It is also known for its restorative, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic properties. St. John's wort is actively used for digestive disorders and insomnia.

Among the main properties of common hawthorn, one should highlight the normalization of the heartbeat, improvement of cerebral circulation, and relief of spasm of vascular walls.

Novo-passit syrup contains liquid plant extracts, the synthetic substance guaifenesin, as well as a number of excipients. Novo-passit contains extracts of plants such as: valerian, St. John's wort, elderberry, hawthorn, lemon balm, passionflower, hops. 100 ml of the drug contains 7.75 g of liquid plant extracts. Guaifenesin is a sedative and anti-anxiety drug. Its dose per 100 ml is 4 g.

Excipients do not affect the body, but help preserve the properties of the main components. The excipients of the medicine include: sodium compounds, gums, syrup, ethyl alcohol, sugar-containing carbohydrates and flavoring.

The mechanism of action of novo-passit on the body is based on the effect of each of its components. The advantage of combining different substances is that they enhance each other's effects. Thus, together all components are more effective than each of them individually. The drug has a pronounced sedative, moderate hypnotic and anti-anxiety effect.

Novo-passit is used for various forms of neuroses, neurasthenia, irritability, and insomnia. In general, all indications for use can be described by the phrase emotional overstrain. The product is indicated for office workers, various enterprises, mothers and all those who feel that they cannot cope with their responsibilities due to extreme fatigue and constant tension.

It is worth considering that the syrup contains sugar-containing components and ethyl alcohol. However, the drug is contraindicated for people suffering from alcoholism.

Diabetes mellitus is not a contraindication to the administration of syrup, but when using it, it is necessary to adjust the diet and dosage of glucose-lowering drugs. One dose of 5 ml contains 1.4 g of sugar-containing substances. This is 0.12 bread units. If possible, patients with diabetes should switch to Novo-Passit tablets. The tablets do not contain sugars.

Compatibility of Novopassit with glycine

Glycine is an analogue of Novopassit, so it is highly undesirable to take them together. Although, according to doctors, the effect of the drugs is quite weak, so if the dosage is observed, there will be no side effects.

Each tablet contains:

active substances:

Taking medication

Novo-passit syrup instructions for use

Today you can purchase the drug in a pharmacy without a prescription or a recommendation from a specialist. If you plan to give it to a child, then parents should first seek professional advice from a doctor.

The doctor or the instructions from the package with the product will tell the patient how to take Novopassit correctly.

  • The soothing syrup is used exclusively internally.
  • You should drink a portion of the medicine shortly before eating.
  • It should be washed down with plenty of clean, non-carbonated and unsweetened water.

For both adults and children, the average dose of the drug was 5 ml. It is convenient to measure this portion with a special miniature dispenser that comes with a bottle of syrup. The indicated dose is used 3 times throughout the day. For example, before each main meal.

The number of doses remains the same - 3 times throughout the day.

If, when taking a standard dose, the patient begins to feel drowsy and tired already in the morning and afternoon, then the portion is reduced to 2.5 ml. The average duration of therapy with Novopassit is 15–20 days. Only a doctor can correctly determine it.

If the patient's condition has not improved after 7 days of regularly taking the syrup, he will most likely need to choose another sedative.

Some characteristics of the body of a child or adult can lead to nausea after taking the medicine on an empty stomach. In this case, you can drink the syrup after meals.

  • It is strictly forbidden to use a sedative at the same time as alcoholic beverages.
  • Throughout the entire course of treatment, it is advisable to avoid active tanning in the open sun and in a solarium. Especially if the patient has light sensitive skin.
  • Diabetics should be aware that the syrup contains sugar in fairly large quantities.

Self-medication may be harmful to your health. You should consult your doctor and also read the instructions before use.

1 ml of solution contains: liquid extract for Novo-Passit (valerian officinalis, lemon balm, St. John's wort, hawthorn, passionflower, hops, black elderberry) – 77.5 mg; guaifenesin – 40 mg.

Applications and dosages

Regardless of the dosage form, the drug must be taken before meals. If a feeling of nausea occurs, it is prescribed to take the drug directly during meals.

Novo-Passit syrup should be taken undiluted, measuring the dosage with a measuring cap. If desired, the solution can be diluted in a small amount of clean water.

for adults

To achieve the most effective therapy, it is recommended to take 1 tablet or 5 ml of Novo-Passit syrup 3 times a day. If necessary, the dosage can be increased or decreased by 2 times. Between doses it is necessary to maintain an interval of 4–6 hours.

for children

For children over 12 years of age, the average daily dosage of the drug is the same as for adult patients. Children under 12 years of age are prohibited from using the product for medicinal purposes.

Is Novopassit suitable for pregnant, nursing mothers and children?

On websites and forums you can find recommendations for the use of Novo-Passit in children. It is believed that any drug is safe and all of them can be used in children. In fact, many medicinal plants are contraindicated for children. Combined preparations from these herbs should also not be given to children. One of these medications is Novo-Passit.

If you look carefully at the composition of the drug, you can find plants that are recommended for children. For example, lemon balm, valerian, and elderberry are used from infancy in small dosages and in the form of decoctions. However, components such as hops and hawthorn exclude the use of novo-passit in children.

Hops are a toxic substance to the body that is very difficult to dose. In case of an overdose of hops, a person experiences the same symptoms as with alcohol abuse - nausea, vomiting, dizziness, impaired coordination of movements, confusion. In Novo-Passit, the concentration of hops corresponds to the adult norm; for a child it is already toxic. Before the age of two, hops are completely contraindicated. Also, children under two years old should not take another component of Novo-Passit - guaifenesin.

Another toxic component of the medicine is hawthorn. This plant is beneficial only in moderate doses and when used correctly. Hawthorn can cause gastrointestinal disorders, intestinal colic, and heart rhythm disturbances in children. Under 12 years of age, hawthorn is contraindicated.

All components of novo-passit are contained in the drug in adult dosages. It is not recommended to give children even a few drops of novo-passit syrup, since it contains a large amount of substances toxic to the child. For example, 1 ml of the drug contains 100 mg of ethyl alcohol. For an adult this is not a significant dose, but for a small child it can be very dangerous.

Giving medicine to children is strictly prohibited; this is due to the immaturity of the nervous system. The drug can be taken from 12 years of age. In this case, the dosage per day should not exceed 1 tablet or 7 ml of syrup.

Features of using Novopassit in pregnant and lactating women:

  • The instructions indicate that the drug is not advisable to take during pregnancy. This is not due to the fact that the medicine is harmful. On the contrary, after research it was found that when taking the medicine, the muscles of the uterus relax.
  • The medicine contains Guaifenesin, which can inhibit fetal development. Accordingly, during pregnancy the drug is prescribed in extreme cases.
  • During lactation, the drug is also prohibited, since valerian and guaifenesin pass into breast milk and can cause allergies and atopic dermatitis in a child.

Side effects

To avoid side effects, it is recommended to familiarize yourself with the contraindications:

  • intolerance to one of the constituent components (especially hypersensitivity to guaifenesin);
  • pathological muscle fatigue and muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis);
  • It is not recommended to give Novopassit to children under 12 years of age.

In case of exacerbation of diseases of the digestive system, liver, or brain, the medicine must be used with extreme caution and under the supervision of a doctor. The same applies to the combination of Novopassit and alcohol. If the patient experiences epileptic seizures, the medicine should also be taken only as prescribed by the doctor.

Usually the body responds well to treatment with the drug, but sometimes side effects can occur. The most common of them:

  • attacks of nausea, vomiting;
  • heartburn;
  • stool disorders;
  • dizziness;
  • constant feeling of drowsiness;
  • impaired concentration;
  • allergic rashes;
  • fatigue and muscle weakness.

Possible side effect: heartburn

Such reactions develop very rarely, and after stopping the medication, the symptoms quickly disappear. For any manifestations of overdose or side effects, especially when treating a child, you should consult a doctor.

The most common side effects when using Novo-Passit are the following conditions:

  • drowsiness;
  • feeling tired;
  • gagging;
  • itchy skin rashes;
  • nausea;
  • decreased concentration;
  • heartburn;
  • muscle weakness;
  • intestinal disorder;
  • dizziness;
  • constipation.

The above manifestations disappear almost immediately after stopping the use of the medication. Otherwise, you need to contact a specialist.

Dizziness, lethargy, fatigue, drowsiness, decreased concentration; nausea, vomiting, heartburn, diarrhea (diarrhea), constipation; itching, exanthema (general name for skin rash); muscle weakness, cramps.

Contraindications, side effects and overdose

The soothing syrup under discussion has a whole list of contraindications.

It is strictly forbidden for children under 12 years of age to take the syrup and for anyone who is allergic to any of the components of the product. This list also includes individual intolerance to the components of the syrup.

It is also contraindicated to use the syrup for:

  • diseases accompanied by severe muscle weakness;
  • serious ailments of the liver and/or digestive organs;
  • any brain pathologies and recent injuries;
  • alcoholism (and during the coding period);
  • epilepsy.

Particular caution should be taken when taking the soothing herbal solution to patients who have problems digesting food and absorbing nutrients in the digestive tract. In this case, it is recommended to choose another remedy with a similar therapeutic effect, but a different composition.

It is in syrup form that the drug should not be used by children and adults with fructose intolerance.

During pregnancy, women can be prescribed such a medicine only if the expected benefit of treatment for the mother significantly outweighs the potential risk for the baby. During this period, syrup is strictly prohibited for self-medication. During lactation, taking syrup is also prohibited. You will need to temporarily switch to artificial feeding.

While taking the drug in question, the patient may experience various side effects.

Most often, from the digestive system:

  • nausea;
  • heartburn;
  • problems with stool.

And also from other systems and organs:

  • itchy skin rash;
  • drowsiness;
  • problems with concentration;
  • muscle weakness.

An overdose of a drug in the first stages is manifested by drowsiness. Then comes heaviness in the stomach, nausea and/or vomiting, and joint pain. If you have such symptoms, you should consult a doctor as soon as possible.

Drug interactions, special instructions

Novo-Passit is characterized by an increase or decrease in the effects of other medications used simultaneously. Medicines that relax skeletal muscles (central muscle relaxants) may increase the severity of side effects such as muscle weakness. Novo-Passit is able to enhance the effects of ethanol and other substances that have a depressing effect on the functioning of the nervous system.

The sedative contains St. John's wort extract, which can reduce the effectiveness of hormonal contraception. A decrease in the effectiveness of immunosuppressants (medicines used after organ transplantation to reduce the risk of rejection of the transplanted tissue or organ) is also recorded.

A similar effect is observed for drugs used to treat cardiovascular pathology, AIDS, diseases of the bronchopulmonary system, as well as medications that prevent the development of thromboembolism.

Composition of Novo-passit

The drug is made on a plant basis. It contains:

  • Melissa;
  • hawthorn;
  • St. John's wort;
  • valerian;
  • hop;
  • elder;
  • passionflower;

Melissa officinalis, in addition to sedatives, also has antiviral, antibacterial and antispasmodic properties.

Analogues of "Novopassit"

Pharmacies offer a variety of sedatives that can become a high-quality replacement for Novopassit. One of the most common analogues is “Persen”. This product contains exclusively herbal ingredients, but has a less powerful healing effect. If we compare the product with Afobazol, it is more effective in combating insomnia and the effects of stress. The replacement will be adequate if neuroses, panic attacks, and anxiety conditions are being treated. It is not entirely correct to compare Novopassit with Glycine. The latter is more effective for anxieties and fears against the background of a failure of metabolic processes in the brain matter and circulatory disorders in the cranium.

“Novopassit” or “Tenoten” – which is better?

These two drugs differ significantly in their type of action, indications, and purposes of use. Tenoten is a nootropic with psychotropic properties. The drug is prescribed to eliminate anxiety and fear in diseases of the brain. Its active ingredients stimulate cellular metabolism and increase tissue resistance to negative external factors. This medicine is useless in the fight against insomnia against the background of psycho-emotional problems. Unlike Novopassit, it does not cause drowsiness, is approved for use in childhood, and does not reduce concentration.

special instructions

While using Novo-Passit tablets, the patient is contraindicated in drinking alcohol, since in this case the likelihood of developing side effects and a depressive effect on the central nervous system increases.
Patients with acute gastrointestinal diseases should take the drug with caution after consulting a doctor. If after a week from the start of therapy the symptoms of neurosis do not disappear or become more pronounced, then the patient should consult a specialist; perhaps these tablets are not suitable for him

During treatment with the drug, the likelihood of photosensitivity increases, so patients are not recommended to visit a solarium or stay in open sunlight for a long time.

Since the tablets contain lactose, patients with congenital intolerance to this substance should avoid this drug; in order to avoid the development of negative reactions, you should always carefully study the accompanying instructions.

The drug affects the functioning of the central nervous system, so during treatment you should refrain from driving a car or using complex equipment that requires a quick reaction.

Usually 2-6 weeks are enough for the nervous system to improve. If you take the drug on your own and after a week you have not seen any effect, consult your doctor.

Indications for use

Novo-Passit tablets are prescribed to patients for the treatment and prevention of the following conditions:

  • Anxiety, feelings of anxiety and unreasonable fear;
  • Insomnia, difficulty falling asleep, frequent awakenings at night, short shallow sleep;
  • Neurasthenia;
  • Vegetovascular dystonia with attacks of panic attacks;

  • Frequent stress;
  • Irritability;
  • Constant fatigue;
  • Tension headaches;
  • As an aid for intestinal spasms and dyspepsia;
  • Atopic dermatitis as a soothing and antipruritic agent.

Drug interactions, special instructions

The simultaneous use of Novopassit and other medications can lead to an increase or decrease in their effect.
The drug also makes the effect of alcohol and other substances that have a depressing effect on the central nervous system more noticeable. In combination with drugs that help relax skeletal muscles, increased side effects are possible (primarily this relates to muscle weakness).

St. John's wort extract makes hormonal contraceptives practically useless. In addition, Novopassit does not combine well with:

  • immunosuppressive medications;
  • anti-AIDS drugs;
  • medications against bronchial and cardiovascular diseases;
  • drugs to prevent thromboembolism.

Special recommendations for people taking Novopassit:

  • avoid excess exposure to ultraviolet rays;
  • do not wait more than 7 days for the disappearance of side symptoms, consult a doctor;
  • limit (or better yet, stop) performing driving duties and activities that require a high speed of psycho-physical reactions.

There are some comments regarding taking the syrup:

  • this remedy is not suitable for people suffering from problems with the absorption of glucose and galactose, as well as those who have been intolerant to fructose since childhood;
  • one prescribed dose of syrup contains up to 1.42 g of glucose and 1.53 g of fructose (a mark for those who suffer from diabetes).

  • Diabetics should be aware that the syrup contains sugar in fairly large quantities.

NovoPassit during pregnancy and lactation

The administration of medication during pregnancy is considered inappropriate. Since there is no specific data on the effect of the material on the child, we can only assume that in the case of initial low blood pressure in the mother, the use of chemical products can lead to a further drop. This will affect the blood supply to the fetus with corresponding consequences.

During pregnancy, the medication can be prescribed only in cases of urgent need; in all other cases, the drug is contraindicated for this category of patients.

In case of breastfeeding, the medication is contraindicated. If necessary, stop breastfeeding.

Indications for use
