Why does your heart hurt during a panic attack?

Features of injury

The integrity of the walls of the heart can be damaged, namely ruptured, as a result of a number of reasons. The septum between the ventricles of the heart or the muscle involved in the operation of the valve may also rupture.

Such phenomena pose a threat to human life, therefore, at the first signs, the patient must stop exposing the body to any kind of stress and call an ambulance. The ability to save the patient’s life depends on how quickly specialists establish the correct diagnosis and begin treatment.

The picture below shows a heart being ruptured.

Classification

Heart ruptures are distinguished primarily as external and internal injuries. The heart has an outer shell. It looks like a dense bag, the wall of which has two layers. Between the layers there is a small amount of liquid for lubrication. This cover, figuratively speaking, is called the pericardium. It performs a protective function.

When a rupture of the heart wall occurs, an external rupture is diagnosed. Blood flows into the pericardial area. The phenomenon of tamponade is possible - when the pericardial space is filled with blood, in this case the heart “chokes” and may stop.

  • Features of external ruptures: The danger of this phenomenon increases if more than one-fifth of the myocardium is a damaged area.
  • The chambers of the heart are differently able to resist rupture: The left ventricle is most susceptible to this problem.
  • With the right ventricle, rupture occurs much less frequently.
  • The atria are rarely ruptured.
  • Mainly the wall on the side of the left ventricle and the anterior wall are torn.
  • An internal rupture is when the integrity of the papillary muscle or the septum between the ventricles is compromised.
If the septum is torn, then mixing of arterial and venous blood occurs, which first leads to swelling of the veins and enlargement of the liver. Whether the patient can be saved depends on how quickly and qualifiedly he receives help.
  • Rupture of the papillary muscle is rare and causes a condition that is incompatible with life. If the muscle does not have a complete tear, but a partial one, then the patient needs urgent surgical help.
  • There are also gaps:

    • Late and early. Late ruptures are possible on the fourth day after a heart attack and the danger of this phenomenon persists until the seventh day. The tissue ruptures at the border between healthy and affected areas. The area affected by necrosis is weakened and additional stress in the form of high blood pressure or physical activity can provoke rupture. Early rupture is possible on the first day after a heart attack occurs. This is facilitated by the extensiveness of the wall damage and additional loads.
    • Slow and immediate. A rupture that increases slowly along the length of the lesion creates a situation where the small amount of blood that is released toward the pericardium is simultaneously partially thrombosed. It may happen that this will stop the flow of blood. Despite the fact that the symptoms of the disease may weaken their manifestations when the flow of blood stops, the patient needs urgent hospitalization and the help of specialists. Immediate rupture - there is a sharp violation of the integrity of the tissue, resulting in cardiac tamponade. In this case, the blood that has entered the pericardial sac compresses the myocardial muscles.

Heart pain during a panic attack - personal experience

I began to experience unpleasant sensations in the form of tingling, squeezing, and pain in the heart area long before acute neurosis. Even then, I knew that there was such a syndrome as intercostal neuralgia, and I understood that, most likely, that’s what I had. Then I nevertheless went to a neurologist, and my supposed diagnosis was confirmed - intercostal neuralgia due to osteochondrosis. And by the way, I’ve been suffering from the latter for a long time - it’s such a job, there’s nothing to be done. And I was too lazy to do gymnastics. Therapeutic massage courses had a positive effect, but not for long. Swimming helped a lot, but I moved and there was no pool near my new house.

In general, I lived a calm life and didn’t really worry about this neuralgia, since it didn’t bother me often.

When I began to experience acute neurosis (ASN), which started with the first powerful panic attack, the pain in the heart area became more frequent and intensified. But literally 3 months before the first attack, I underwent a full examination, and I had an ultrasound of the heart, as well as a cardiogram. My heart was absolutely healthy. Therefore, I understood that these pains were neuralgic in nature. They didn't scare me that much. I was much more scared because I didn’t understand what was actually happening to me. After all, back then I didn’t yet know that I had a neurosis and that I was experiencing panic attacks. But during the attack, the pain in the left side of the sternum was sometimes so strong that I could not even move. These pains sometimes appeared outside of anxiety attacks, for example, while walking, or simply spontaneously, with some kind of movement.

    chest pain

When I managed to figure out what neurosis is and what its true causes are, I realized that there was no point in fighting its individual symptoms. “Heart” pain left me along with panic disorder.

Here I want to tell you what actually causes discomfort in the heart area during PA and how dangerous it is.

    Causes of heart rupture

    Are common

Damage to the integrity of the heart can be caused by the following factors:

    • as a result of mechanical impact: blow, bruise;
    • heart rupture due to myocardial infarction
    • diseases can lead to rupture: tumor pathologies of the heart,
    • congenital anomalies - there is an area in the heart where the wall is thinner than normal from birth; such a phenomenon under increased loads can cause a rupture in a thinned area;
    • infectious or inflammatory diseases of the lining of the heart,
    • as a result of excess content of any substances in the composition of organ tissues: sarcoidosis,
    • amyloidosis,
    • hemochromatosis,
  • being female is considered a risk factor, because according to statistics, this disease occurs twice as often among women.
  • Tissue rupture of the heart walls or internal septum, as a complication of myocardial infarction, occurs in 8% of patients with this diagnosis. It is the violation of the integrity of the heart that is the cause of mortality during a heart attack; it accounts for up to 30% of patients who have this disease.

    During a heart attack

The reasons that provoke rupture of the heart walls during a heart attack are:

    • If a patient has had a first heart attack, then a violation of the integrity of the walls is more likely than with subsequent heart attacks. This is due to the fact that the scar formed in the first instance of rupture makes the area more resistant to such danger.
    • Extensive damage to the heart muscle, which can cause transmural infarction.
    • Premature physical activity after a heart attack can cause heart wall ruptures.
    • When a patient who had a heart attack received help from doctors later than a day after the attack.
    • The fact that the patient has been taking anti-inflammatory and hormonal drugs for a long time plays a negative role. They impair the body's ability to create scars at the site of the tear.
    • Hypertension creates the preconditions for a heart attack, which can lead to heart rupture.
    • If, during the treatment of a patient with heart problems, thrombolytic drugs are prescribed late. Thus, they did not have time to prevent myocardial infarction, which in turn can cause heart rupture.

Heart rupture has its own symptoms, and we’ll talk about them further.

    Basic Christian Prayers

    Our Father

Our Father, who art in heaven! Hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, as it is in heaven and on earth. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts, just as we forgive our debtors, and do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory forever. Amen.

    Jesus Prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

    Virgin Mary, rejoice

Virgin Mary, Rejoice, Blessed Mary, the Lord is with You, blessed are You among women and blessed is the fruit of Your womb, for You have given birth to the Savior of our souls.

    Prayer to the Honest Cross

May God rise again, and may His enemies be scattered, and may those who hate Him flee from His presence. As smoke disappears, let them disappear, as wax melts from the face of fire, so let demons perish from the face of those who love God and are marked by the Sign of the Cross and say in joy: Rejoice, Most Pure and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, drive away the demons by force who have been cast upon you, our Lord Jesus Christ, who descended into hell and trampled upon the power of the devil, and who gave us His Honest Cross to drive away every adversary. O Most Pure and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord! Help me with the Holy Virgin Mary and with all the saints forever. Amen.

Prayer to the Mother of God of Kazan

O Most Holy Lady Lady Theotokos! With fear, faith and love, falling before Your honest icon, we pray to You: do not turn Your face away from those who come running to You, beseech, Merciful Mother, Your Son and our God, the Lord Jesus Christ, to keep our country peaceful and His Church May he preserve the unshakable saint and deliver him from unbelief, heresies and schism. There are no other imams of help, no other imams of hope, except You, Most Pure Virgin: You are the all-powerful Helper and Intercessor of Christians. Deliver all those who pray to You with faith from the falls of sin, from the slander of evil people, from all temptations, sorrows, illnesses, troubles and from sudden death; Grant us the spirit of contrition, humility of heart, purity of thoughts, correction of sinful lives and the remission of sins, so that by all of us, thanking Thy greatness and mercy shown over us here on earth, we will be worthy of the Heavenly Kingdom and there with all the saints we will glorify the most honorable and splendid name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen.

Alive in the help of Vyshnyago

Living in the help of the Most High, he will settle in the shelter of the Heavenly God. Says the Lord: Thou art my Protector and my Refuge, my God, and I trust in Him. For He will deliver you from the snare of the trap, and from rebellious words, His splash will overshadow you, and under His wing you hope: His truth will surround you with weapons. Do not be afraid from the fear of the night, from the arrow that flies during the day, from the thing that passes in darkness, from the cloak, and from the demon at noon. Thousands will fall from your country, and darkness will fall at your right hand, but it will not come close to you, otherwise you will look at your eyes, and you will see the reward of sinners. For You, O Lord, are my hope, You have made the Most High your refuge. Evil will not come to you, and wound will not approach your body, as His Angel commanded you to keep you in all your ways. They will lift you up in their arms, but not when you dash your foot on a stone, step on an asp and a basilisk, and cross a lion and a serpent. For I have trusted in Me, and I will deliver, and I will cover, and because I have known My name. He will call to Me, and I will hear him: I am with him in sorrow, I will overcome him, and I will glorify him, I will fill him with long days, and I will show him My salvation. Amen.

    Symptoms

If a patient has a situation where a heart rupture may occur, then the signs of the disease can be considered by period.

    Before the breakup:

    • heart pain that is not relieved by nitroglycerin or other drugs;
    • phenomena similar to shock increase: weak pulse,
    • blood pressure drops noticeably,
    • The patient develops a sticky, cold sweat.

The rupture period can be manifested by the following symptoms:

    • skin color becomes gray-blue,
    • loss of consciousness,
    • the veins in the neck thicken,
    • pulse cannot be felt
    • no pressure detected
    • breathing stops a minute after the appearance of the previous sign.

If the gap is small and the bleeding has stopped, the pressure is gradually restored.

When the first signs appear, you must call an ambulance. If the situation stabilizes, an ambulance is also necessary.

Prayer to the Mother of God for the sick

As mentioned above, there is no specific Orthodox prayer for a mother against a child’s fear. However, there is a common one for all sorts of ailments. Before the icon of our Mother the following words can be said:

The best time for this prayer for fear in children is during a service. When the moment comes to be baptized, and this is when the priests pronounce the name of our God, His Son and the Mother of God, as well as the words “Amen,” you should bend over the baby’s forehead and say a prayer. Then put crosses on yourself and the child 3 times, and bow to the images.

    Diagnostics

The specialist listens and analyzes the patient’s complaints, asks for details and time periods when alarming symptoms appeared. The doctor finds out whether the patient has previously had a heart attack. After this, additional research is carried out to the extent that the specialist chooses.

    • Pulse and blood pressure are measured.
    • The heart is listened to using a stethoscope.
    • The skin is examined to determine its color.
    • Test collection: Biochemical blood test - the level of a number of substances is determined, which will tell about possible disorders of systems and organs.
    • Clinical (blood and urine) indicators will provide information about the patient’s general health and possible other diseases.
    • Detailed coagulogram - the study determines the ability of blood to clot.
    • Analysis for troponin T content - its increased content may indicate that the heart muscle has been destroyed.
  • Echocardiography - determines disturbances in the movement of blood, the location of the rupture, and how much blood has spilled into the cavity.
  • Electrocardiography - can determine what difference there is between the pulse and heart rhythm. From the moment of rupture, the heart still has a rhythm close to normal, and blood pressure and pulse drop noticeably. Over time, the heart rate becomes slower and cardiac arrest may occur.
  • We will talk about treatment for heart rupture below.

    Are prayers effective?

Remember the moment when you were very thirsty. Would pure spring water help you fulfill your desire at this moment? That’s how it is with Orthodox prayer for a child’s fear, it really heals and eliminates thirst. Only, unlike liquid, it does not pass through the stomach, but through the soul, which wants to protect a small child from all kinds of evil and fear. It is much more effective and efficient than many other means designed to get rid of the disease.

As for the words read during rituals and other magical sacraments, everything is different here. It’s like drinking sweet soda, you seem to drink it, but after a while you want more. And so on ad infinitum, until you drink clean water. Think about this before choosing between going to church and performing a ritual over water.

    Treatment

The main method of assistance is surgery. The operation is carried out as quickly as possible.

    Therapeutic and medicinal

In the period before surgery, the patient is supported, if necessary. Measures are taken to establish proper blood flow.

    • To do this, a device can be installed that will support the functioning of the heart for the period before surgery.
    • To alleviate the condition while awaiting surgery, manipulation to remove fluid from the pericardium is possible.
    • To improve blood circulation in the period before surgery, drip administration of drugs is possible, which reduces vascular resistance.

    Operation

    • Closed method operation (intravascular) – used for septal rupture. It is carried out under the supervision of an X-ray machine. A patch is applied to the broken area.
    • An open operation is also performed to install patches, and stitching of the tear is also done.
    • If the papillary muscles are torn off or the valve is damaged, it is possible to suture the muscles and replace the valve.
    • If there is an aneurysm, in order to prevent tissue rupture, it is removed and the place is strengthened with a patch.
    • Heart transplantation if indicated is possible if donor material is available.
    • To avoid a heart attack and its consequences in the form of ruptures, heart bypass surgery is performed.

    Prevention

To protect yourself from heart failure, you must do the following:

    • Make sure your cholesterol levels are normal.
    • It is necessary to determine its content in the blood and adhere to a lowering diet if necessary.
    • Follow preventive measures to avoid coronary artery disease.
    • You need to quit smoking.
    • Timely treatment of a heart attack and compliance with the prescribed regimen. You cannot expose the body to physical stress prematurely, as this can lead to late rupture of cardiac tissue.

Patients with a heart attack must be transported with extreme caution.

    Prayer for fear for children

It is a petition to the Lord that can heal both a child and an adult from causeless fear. Below is a prayer request for relief from fear.

Come out, enemy, Satan, childish fear, from the servant of God (name). From her body, from her head, from her legs, from her arms, from her heart, from her stomach, from her veins, half-veins, bones. You shouldn’t stand here, don’t walk on bones, don’t break bones, don’t dry the body and don’t drink blood. Come out, enemy, Satan, childish fear, from the servant of God (name) into the swamps, into low places where the sun does not rise, where people do not walk. It is not I who send you away, pour you out, reprimand you, but the Lord Jesus Christ commands you to get rid of all illnesses from the servant of God (name). Amen. Amen. Amen

It is recommended to read this prayer three times for three days in a row.

Prayer to Matrona of Moscow from the fright of a child

Help me, Blessed Elder, to find peace in my sinful soul. Drive away my random fear and bring peace of faith. Protect me from destructive fear and give me strength for a speedy recovery. Ask the Lord God for mercy and righteous fear about his punishment. Thy will be done. Amen

    Forecast

Rupture of heart tissue is a deadly phenomenon. With prompt surgery there is hope of saving the patient's life. As a result of qualified surgical care, only half of the patients survive. This is due to the fact that after stitching, the heart muscles tend to erupt.

    • If there is a rupture of the septum between the ventricles, then the patient can be saved if help comes no later than two days after the acute situation arose. There is hope to extend the patient’s life for some time.
    • In case of complete rupture of the papillary muscle, rapid pulmonary edema and death occur.

The following video shows what a ventricular septal rupture of the heart looks like:

    What prayers should I read?

In Orthodoxy there are no special prayers for fear in children, just as there are no other specific prayers. Those words that are read about water, milk, wax and other products produced by man are already conspiracies. Even if they are addressed to the Mother of God and contain the word “Amen,” they are more likely from magical art than from Christianity.

If you want to know what prayers exist for the fear of a child that mothers read for their children, then these are “Our Father”, “Virgin Mother of God, Rejoice”, the prayer for healing “Lord, Almighty”. It is also recommended to make requests to the Saints who showed miracles of healing during their lives: Matrona of Moscow, Seraphim of Sarov, Paraskeva Pyatnitsa and Panteleimon the Healer. All of them are tireless prayer workers, standing in defense of us sinners.
